K's Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is only 5 weeks away! And along with this celebration of festivities comes the dread of christmas gift buying. I luckily have just started my gift purchasing with only a few more presents left to buy. But for anyone wondering what I would like this Christmas here's a few ideas.....

1. Boi-ing by Benefit- I'm itching to try this flawless concealer

2. eos - These lip balms are a great stocking filler

3. I'm dying for a pineapple phone case! These can be found on Asos or Etsy

4. Barbarells by Nars- This lipstick is a beautiful peach/nude shade

5. A winter Coat- My favourites are currently from Asos, Warehouse and Topshop

6. Simple Makeup Bag- This is currently going for £10 on Asos!
7. New Balance trainers- Whilst all the other fashion bloggers had a pair of these babies in August, I still haven't managed to buy a pair for myself !

So there's a few of my must-haves for this Christmas :)

Halloween Makeup Tutorial : Scarecrow

It's almost Halloween! So here the first of my spooky makeup tutorials....

My First look is the Scarecrow, not a traditional halloween costume but a great last minute costume if you haven't got a pair of fangs or a broomstick!

Step 1.

Simply using liquid eyeliner draw a curved line either side of your mouth. Then draw 5 small lines vertically along these lines giving them a T shaped edge.

Step 2.

Again, using the liquid eyeliner, make a egg shape on your nose, them fill this with orange face paint.

Step 3.

Make stitch marks around the egg shaped patch.

Step 4.

Using the orange face paint, draw a circle on each cheek.

Step 5.

Using white face paint and a thin makeup brush, draw a white mark on each orange spot.

Step 6.

Choose your selection of orange/coral lipstick

Step 7.

Using the liquid eyeliner, draw two thick lines below each eye.

Step 8.

Finally, add in black lines below your eye to create a stitched/ drawn on effect.

Step 9.

Add your choice of costume and you're ready to go!

Here are the products that I used to create my look...

Renée Zellweger's New Look: Why Are We So Obsessed?

Whilst blogs and social media are going crazy about Renée Zellweger's new look, what we think about it, why? And critical analogies telling us off for our opinions on the matter, I
can't help but think, why have we reacted in this way? and are we bad people for doing so? Over the past few days i'd like to say I haven't read around 20 different articles on the matter, but the fact is I have. Whichever social media site I go on I find an interesting headline drawing me in to again read about the same thing from various different perspectives. Everyone can agree on one thing - the lady that walked onto the red carpet at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, did not resemble the lady that we all associate with being Renée Zellweger, and yet it was. Was it bad of us to instantly think 'Wait no that can't be her!', 'she must have had something done' or the controversial 'well isn't she looking a bit worse for wear'. I've read several articles slating the final comment, and suggesting that those who thought that are insensitive and naive of the affects of the ageing process.  I understand this point of view and can grasp the idea that many women may be perhaps offended by the publics extreme reaction to the situation. Women in the public eye are often criticised for changes in appearance and have a the burden of constantly being judged on their visual appearance. All women, all humans feel self conscious, awkward, embarassed and nervous at various times in their life, so surely they would understand how Zellweger probably felt nervous about debuting her new look, yet they still reacted in a shocked and questioning manner. Why is this? is this because, as many have argued, we are horrible people, we have no sympathy, we don't understand that the ageing process effects us all in different ways? No, the fact is, we are all merely curious, as we would be if we met  with a friend and they showed up looking vastly different. We'd ask this friend, 'have you been dieting? changed your lifestyle?', this is not out of rudeness, but interest. Whether you thought she looked better, worse or merely different, it's normal to question change, everyone does it.

Faux Fur Fashion

Faux Fur has undoubtedly made a comeback this season, with thousands of fashion junkies trying to get their hands on a fur keyring, clutch or winter coat. But why has everyone all of a sudden gone faux crazy? That's easy to answer...Shrimps! No not the little prawn creature you pop into your chow mien, Shrimps, a small label that sells brightly coloured faux fur products that dominated the Autumn/Winter fashion weeks, even though they themselves did not host their own show. These coats were everywhere, and have got highstreet shops going fur mad. All of the biggest celebs seemed to be modelling these vibrant furry coats and bags, and have the papers going absolutely mad over Hannah Weiland and Shrimps. I am a massive supporter of this trend and am dying to get my hands on as much faux fur as I possibly can. These accessories have given life to the winter period, stomping on our old khaki trench and saying 'hey, why does winter have to be all about the dark sludgy colours?'. This look is essentially the Autumn/Winter version of last Summers Avant Garde all black look.

If you haven't already seen some of these luscious products, here's a few snaps...

Being a student I know that as much as it pains me, I can't afford any items from the Shrimps range, but being the bargain hunter I am have searched for a few places that a selling their own version of these crazy must-haves.

These two are personal favourites of mine from MakeItFancyLondon. All their items can be seen on their Instagram account - @CHLOWEBB01

These are Asos own, just two of their many products online

And last but not least, this furry keyring is just £12.50 from spoiledbrat.co.uk !

Check out our S&K Insta account for more pictures of our fave faux fur items.

University Decor

As I recently moved into my new uni house, I thought I
might share a couple of my cheap yet cheerful University decor secrets.
Uni rooms aren't exactly the prettiest, therefore I love personalising my house to make it feel homely and comfortable. Although i picked the short straw and ended up with the smallest room in our house, luckily I still have a large desk, double bed and a massive book shelf (which excited me a lot due to being an English Literature student).
Students don't exactly have the biggest of budgets, so I've pieced together a few of my purchases that have made my room feel larger, using light colours and minimal patterns, as well as being reasonably priced.
Here are a few snaps  ....

This brush holder is £3 from Ikea, it was originally white but I decided to buy some lilac spray paint from Hobbycraft to liven it up

This bedding was £15 from Asda, and the grey cushion £14 from Next

The teacup candle on the left was bought at a stall in Grenwich market for £10, the candles on the right were £4 from Ikea.

And finally, my LED lanterns, which were £6 from Primark. These are cute to have on at night time. I have placed these on my bookshelf, but they often look nice hanging around wall art or a bed frame.

Hope this post helps anyone looking to accessorise their bedroom.

Mini boots haul!

Hello All! I thought I would share my recent mini haul from boots (can you tell it has just been pay day?)

First on my list of must buys is the new Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo - I chose the Aussome Volume one even though it's for fine hair because lets be honest, who doesn't want more volume? I can't speak much yet for how well it works as my hair is newly washed. However, I can say that it smells incredible! Keep an eye out on Instagram for updates on this one.

I was desperate to repurchase some gimme brow as mine is dangerously close to being completely used up. Probably due to the fact that I use it every day, sometimes twice. Yes I like it that much. While I was there I was eyeing up the new addition to the benefit line - the Majorette blush. This is beautiful and not only due to the gorgeous packaging but also because of the sumptuous cream to powder texture that literally glides on and the fabulous coral colour that is almost NARS-like in its beauty.

Oh and the L'oreal Confetti top coat somehow sneaked its way into my basket, again I haven't tried this yet but as soon as my gels come off I will give these cute little speckles a bash.

Now last but no means least - YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in number 5. This is a really stunning, no mirror, deep berry, super moisturising and all round fabulous lipstick. I have wanted this since my last little pay day outing when it was unfortunately out of stock. I now own it - and I am over the moon!

London Fashion Week 2014

So as you know, over the summer I spent 3 months working as a web intern for House of Holland, and my god what an experience it was! This was my first time interning in the world of fashion and unless you've done it yourself, you definitely have no idea what is in store for you. Blood, sweat and tears is a saying that comes to mind. All the hard worked paid off in the end! I was lucky enough to be able to watch the SS15 show at London Fashion week!
Here are a few of the pics that I managed to take ...

I learnt loads and had a blast along the way, making friendships with people i'm certain I will stay in touch with for years to come.

And yes, when I left I got a few goodies from the stock room .. take a look -
